We love, love stories! How did you and your husband meet and how did he propose?
My husband and I are so blessed to be high school sweethearts. So we met in high school and started dating in 2009. In 2016 he proposed to me on top of the Magalies Mountains near Hartebeespoort dam. He was so romantic and planned everything out perfectly. He even got everything on video :). I couldn’t contain my excitement when he went down on one knee! It was so special and I did not expect anything which made it even more amazing. He even designed and had a ring made without me knowing, and it is truly gorgeous. He then surprised me further with our closets family that were waiting (and hiding) on the mountain. So we all celebrated together :). To make things even more special he had a whole engagement party surprise planned for that evening. It was such a perfect and amazing day.
What was the favourite part of your wedding day?
Our wedding day was the best day of our lives, everything was so perfect and even better than we dreamed about. But if I had to choose my absolute favourite part of our wedding day it would be seeing my husband for the first time in the chapel. He wears his heart on his sleeve and I could see the love and admiration he has for me. It was such a great feeling walking down the isle towards him and feeling unconditionally loved. He had the absolute best reaction and I will cherish it in my heart forever.
You fitted a variety of wedding dresses, how did you know when it was ‘the one’ and what did you love most about your wedding dress?
I looked at hundreds of dresses on Pinterest and had an idea of the type of wedding dress style that I liked. I wanted an elegant mermaid style dress that had a low back and a sweetheart neckline. After a lot of browsing through wedding-dress-websites I fitted numerous dresses. But I fell in love with the Tamela dress at Timeless Bridal Couture. This dress was so stunning and elegant and something special. It ticked all my boxes and made me feel like an elegant bride. I knew it was the one as I did not want to take it off :), my closest family also loved it. The detail in the lace was breathtaking as it was soft with roses and see-through sequence that added a little shimmer. The sweetheart neckline was exactly what I wanted and the oval train was stunning and something unique. The low back was spectacular, I loved this most about my wedding dress. My wedding dress was even better than I dreamed of and is timeless.
How did you decide on the look and feel you wanted to have as a bride?
I wanted an elegant romantic bridal look and I mainly got my inspiration from Pinterest. Looking through many photos helped me form a picture and get an idea of what I would like. However fitting wedding dresses also helped me as I could see the ‘picture’ in real life. I also valued the opinions of my parents and sister a lot.
What advice would you give future brides when it comes to wedding dress shopping?
. I would advice future brides that are shopping for “the dress” to take a few people with to the fittings whose opinions you trust and who knows you really well. I asked them take a lot of photos and videos of me in the dress and looked at these again afterwards. This really helps you to see yourself in the dress from another perspective. This helped me to make a better decision as one can easily get carried away in the moment when wearing a stunning white dress hehe. I would also advice future brides to have a good idea of your budget and to fit dresses within that limit. Finally, make sure that the bridal shop where you buy your wedding dress is good as this plays a very big part in your wedding dress shopping experience.
